2025 GMC Sierra 3500HD Dimensions, MPG, Release Date – As the brand’s only truck available with dually rear wheels , the Sierra 3500HD sits at the top of GMC’s heavy-duty pickup range. It can tow and haul more than the Sierra 1500 and Sierra 2500HD . The current generation of this truck was introduced for model year 2025, and it gets a thorough refresh for 2025.

Exterior and Interior
The cabin is treated to premium leather, wood, and microfiber trim. New 16-way adjustable front seats are heated, ventilated, and have massage functionality. Technology is plentiful, including features like a digital rearview mirror, 12-speaker Bose audio system, and surround-view camera system. The Sierra has the inherent practicality of a pickup, of course, and in my tester’s configuration has a maximum towing capacity of 4,445 kg (9,800 lb), and payload of 700 kg (1,544 lb). Inside, there’s a ton of small-item storage: a large open centre cubby, deep console box, two gloveboxes, and a bin atop the dash. The rear seat cushions lift up to reveal a storage area under them, and the seatbacks cleverly conceal storage bins inside.
The CarbonPro bed is part of a $4,790 option package. The box exterior is steel, but the floor and sides are made of carbon-fibre composite. The idea is that it saves weight – about 27 kg (60 lb) – and also resists dents and corrosion. Three indentations at the back are meant to hold the wheels of bicycles or dirt bikes. My truck also had a MultiPro tailgate, which features a small gate-within-the-gate. This can be configured six ways, including as a bed step (with a handle in the bed side), cargo stop, or two-tier loading. An ultra-simple-and-brilliant bumper step, with a hand-hold in the box side, is standard equipment.

In its 2025 refresh, the Sierra 3500HD gains numerous available tech features. Screens abound, between the 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, 12.3-inch gauge cluster display, 15.0-inch head-up display, and digital rearview mirror. Certain models have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. One appealing option is the surround-view camera system, which can focus in on views of the bed or trailer hitch. High-end Sierra 3500HD models get a new Bose 12-speaker audio system.
On its own, the AT4 comes very well equipped – as it should for its $64,000 starting price, of course – including LED front and rear lighting, auto-dimming and power-folding mirrors, power tailgate (up and down), and twelve fixed cargo tie-downs. On the inside, you get heated and ventilated front seats with 10-way power adjustment, and auto-dimming rearview mirror. But you can certainly pack more into it and mine did, which added such items as a camera mirror (which plays a digital version of what’s behind you on your rearview – handy if the bed’s contents block your mirror, although I find it tough to quickly focus on it), head-up display, power sunroof, power-sliding rear window, and assist steps.
Engine and Performance
The Sierra 3500HD is built with RWD as standard, or 4WD optionally. The Denali and AT4 trims include 4WD. Two 6.6-liter V-8 engines—one gasoline, one turbodiesel—are offered in the Sierra 3500HD. Both are connected to a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. The gas V-8 makes 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. It’s likely this new diesel engine will improve upon the Sierra 3500HD’s previous 0-60-mph time of 6.9 seconds.

As standard, the Sierra 3500HD comes in two-door regular cab configuration, which can seat two or three passengers across. For more capacity, the four-door double and crew cabs are available, which have space for up to six passengers.
The regular, double, and crew cab can be had with a long bed, which measures 98.3 inches long. The double and crew cabs can be paired with a standard bed that measures 82.3 inches long. Unlike prior model years, the 2025 Sierra 3500HD now comes standard with driver assist and active safety features. In the Sierra 3500HD, the lowest payload rating is 4,013 pounds, found in the crew cab, long bed, RWD diesel variant. The highest payload rating is 7,442 pounds, provided by the regular cab, long bed, RWD gas variant. Conventional towing maxes out at 14,500 pounds for most versions of the Sierra 3500HD.
